MNZ

Maryam Nassir Zadeh.  One of the most beautiful stores in the world.   She is a young woman with the most amazing eye.  Her website is one of the best.  Uday Kak, her husband, does the photography.  The images are always stunning.  I often leave in awe, inclined to wear my clothes in a new way.  Even my own dress,  photographed by Uday...The JK Riviera Dress untied at the waist, so clever.

CROSSING THAT BRIDGE

Traveling with a person under the age of three has its challenges.  While I wish to be a bourbon swilling, free wheeling hooligan, I can not be, most days.  I have to be patient.  I have to be cool.  I have to be an example.  At one point today the little blonde yells, "Ahhh, a compromise is coming!"  I can only guess he has mistaken the word for some kind of troll or ghoul that would live under a bridge.   The truth is, damn straight a compromise is coming.  Always.  All days.  It may just be my new motto.

But we survive. Again and again.

AIRPORTS AND MAGAZINES

Texas. SXSW. 48 Hours. Awesome. Waiting for my plane I found JK twice at The bookstore in the terminal. Once on Savannah Jane Buffet, who was hiding under the full bosom of Jessica Simpson, and once in a tiny text about Texas, how Lucky. Did I mention how much I love Texas? Well I do.

BIG EASY EXPRESS

Last night I was invited to a screening of my friend Emmett's new film.  It is a documentary about 3 bands on a train from San Francisco to New Orleans.  It was magical, It was mystical, It was powerful.  It inspired me to laugh, to cry, to pump my fist, to stomp my foot, and hollar with delight.   It made me want to drop out of society, learn an instrument, wear my overalls, get dirty, howl at the moon, and feel the wind blowing fiercely against my face. The film is playing at sxsw, and then one day be available for the rest of us lucky ones.  When you get the chance.. run, don't walk... Back into the magic.

THE GIRLS

MARY + NANCY

NYC.  Fashion Week.  Jesse Kamm slips up to the upper west side to hang with her girlfriends Mary and Nancy for a few nights.  They are sisters.  They are beautiful.  They are not into twitter.  Mary is the mother of my dear friend Ethan.  They lived in London and Paris in the 60's and 70's.  Nancy was the editor of the STYLE page at the Times for 20 years.  Stories were told...  Dating dukes, close friendships with Geoffrey Beene, working hand and glove with Bill Cunningham, shopping at the first YSL store in the states,  haircuts by Vidal, standing in line at Mary Quant, undercover lovers, etc... this sort of rich banter went on evening after evening.  Old garments were unearthed.  Dress up was played.  I choose these gals over the Marc Jacobs show any day of the week.

In the dining room...  Delicacies their mother purchased in Paris in 1931.
