PRINT SHOP

The other day I got a phone call from my local screen printer.

Me:  "Hey man".
Him: "Hey, I am closing up shop."
Me:  "What? Seriously? When?"
Him: "Next week."
Me:  "Dude.  What? What about Fall production?"
Him: "Sorry."

Wow.  So there was that.  JK doesn't stay down for long though.  I am back in action with a new print shop in the home studio.  It is so boss to be printing again.  I starting contracting out the work after Julien was born, man did I miss it.  Screw that guy, my triceps are going to be rocks!  Look out.

New works:  Acid yellow on canvas.  New bags coming soon.

BABBLING ABOUT EL PORTO

I was sitting in the water at El Porto the other day.  There were no waves, so I did not have much else to do but think.  And think, and think, and think.  I decided that the oil refinery and water treatment plant are actually quite stunning.  Like maybe Richard Serra consulted on structure one, and Chris Burden on structure two. Yes I do believe so.  I am very into the idea of finding grace amidst toxic waste.   I am also very into making face masks out of kelp.  Not like an anti-aging kind, but more like a mexican wresting. You feel me?

VICTORIA MORRIS STUDIO VISIT

On Thursday I wend to drop off a Flag Tunic and a Bow and Stern top from the SS2012 collection to one of my favorite customers, Victoria Morris.  She is a very old friend, and a constant source of mental stimulus.  She is one of two potters that I collect.  She is extremely talented.  I love her aesthetic.  I should mention that it was her surfboard I was on when I saw the whale.   Here is a peek at her spectacle.

BROWERHAUS BIER GARDEN

Luke's brother started brewing his own beer 6 months ago, while on break from touring with his band.  This Saturday he debuted his tasty suds.  He built an amazing biergarden, and all of the bros came out.  My favorite things of the day///  Handsome home brews which were to die for, my husband in lederhosen, Laura's braids, bavarian pretzels on a rope,  Lucy's new bangs,  Laura's 5-year-old acid yellow pants,  and the brewmeister himself, the wonderful Ned Andrew Brower.  Thanks Sarah and Ned for a very rad day.

LUKE + JESSE + THE GRAY WHALE

At first I thought it was a shark.  We had been in the water for an hour.   We were the only ones out when some dolphins showed up.  Something seemed weird, and then a brown shape came out out of the water, one I had never seen before.  It was bumpy and scarred.  First the fear set in.   The second time the shape appeared, I knew it was moving too slow to be shark.  Then she blew her spout.  We were so stoked.  Freaking out.  We paddled over.  She was 15 ft away.  She was just flopping around checking us out.  Everyone on the beach was on their feet watching us.  It was crazy.  Ten minutes of this madness passed, and then out of no where it breeched... it was 20 ft long.  And then, off she went, up to Alaska.   April 6, 2012.  This was by far one of the craziest days of my life.

Note//
The whale photo is from the inter-web.
The inter-web says it was a baby Gray whale migrating North, as they do along the California coast in April.  I am quite glad I did not see the 53 ft mother she was traveling with.

A SKETCH

When I was pregnant, Luke and I had to do drawings for a birthing class.  The assignment was to draw what we envisioned our birth would look like.  We had our babe in our living room.  I just found Luke's drawing.   A stereo, a monkey man with seal arms, a walking bear, some art, a chick in a headband, and a flying mammal.  I did not, in the end, turn out quite like that.  Too bad,  I look so hot.
